Arch Linux 2009.08 & Froscon 2009

So, the Arch Linux 2009.08 release is now behind us, nicely on schedule.
I hope people will like AIF because it was a lot of work and we didn't receive much feedback. I personally like it to apply my fancy backup restoration approach.
But I'm sure if more people would look at the code we would find quite some design and implementation things that could be improved. (With uzbl I was amazed how much difference it can make if many people all have ideas and opinions about every little detail)

Later this week I'm off to the Counting Cows festival in France, and the week after that (august 22-23) I'm going to FrOSCon in Germany where I will meet some of my Arch Linux colleagues in real life, which I'm really looking forward to.

If anyone wants a ride to froscon let me know. But note I'll try to maximize my time there (leave saturday early and come back late on sunday. I even took a day off on monday so I might stay a day longer if I find more interested people to hang out there)

Feedback on installer

I generally like the new installer, I think it will take some getting used to for me as I was so used to the old installer it was almost autopilot and it was frustrating the first couple times, mainly due to not paying attention.

1. It tries to advance for you when done with a section and I kept down-arrowing and it would complain I hadn't done the previous step
2. In the old installer, when using existing partitions, it would show size and I knew the size of my root and swap and I selected them easily, in the new installer I accidentally toasted the wrong partition.
3. Ntp always shows error for me

I like that it defaults to a lot of things that I normally do anyway
1. DHCP by default
2. adding hostname to host file

Keep up the good work and its nice to see more work done on arch as its the best!

I'm also planning to drive

I'm also planning to drive to FrOSCon. Perhaps we should carpool.
I've already reserved a hotel in Bonn though.
Where are you staying?

@Mindcloud: you might want

@Mindcloud: you might want to report a bug about the ntp error. you did see the notice "make sure your network works first" right?

@Kristof: well I haven't really searched for a place yet because we can sleep in the devrooms. So unless something nicer presents itself that's what I'll do :)
Not sure about the carpooling, I thought I could maybe hang around a day longer if I find someone interested to join me. But as you can see I didn't do my homework yet.
